Trek-To-Clean at Shivgange on 26-10-2004
This is about our "Trek-To-Clean" Expedition on occasion of World Tourism day on 26th Sept'2004.
*********************************************************************************
Hi All…
Yesterday I had been on trek to a place called "Shiv Gange" which is around 70K.m. from Bangalore city. It was not a just a usual trek as we go up, make fun, climb, eat and come down.. Apart from these usual things, we also cleaned that trek place. The name of the organization who conducted the trek was "Trek to clean". They initially used to go for just normal trek, but looking at the plastic waste lying over there, this organization started new kind of trek expedition as go for trek, enjoy the trek, but also clean the place by removing plastic covers, bags from there..
We all gathered at Cubbon park on M G Road on 26th Sept at 6:30 am.. I was with my 2 more friends.. Rest all people were new to us.. One by one people started coming in and we introduced ourself to each other.. People participating were from all walks of life. Professors, school-college children, s/w engineers, newspaper editors, etc...
Apart from organizers, many people helped in lifting luggage, putting that into the bus.
2 buses were arranged. After the bus started, antakshari started. Initially very few people were showing interest, but later on many of them joined.. Great fun !!
After reaching at actual destination, they served us breakfast. It was arranged in one temple. We in all were around 70-75 people. They divided all of us in group of 12 each. One group leader was assigned. We had been provided with "weapons" to clean :)) One plastic bag (we use to carry cement), and some other tools were provided for garbage collection.
Expedition started, we all started climbing. In our group of 12 people, we 3 friends were well-known to each other. Others were totally new. But just after some time, we all started cleaning, trekking, teasing, talking with each other like no other barrier of newness was existing. One person will hold the gunny bag, one will take out the garbage, one will help in supplying drinking water....
And yes, to make our trek more interesting, there were few more members, nobody charged them anything to accompany us in trek, the great Monkeys !!!!! So many monkeys were there... It was difficult for me to find the difference between my house in Maruti Nagar and Shiv gange hill.. (as at my home, monkeys are regular guests!)
When we all decided that we want to reach the peak point, where all people don't go normally.. We all unanimously decided to skip lunch as it would have been waste of time. But there were stalls in between to sell buttermilk, lime water, cucumber. So we all enjoyed that.. Also we were carrying biscuits. Trek organizers had provided us with Energy-pack, and in real sense it was Energy-pack.. It consisted of khajoor, groundnuts, lemon drops, and dry greps.. Due to all this, we could successfully climb till peak-point. After reaching at top, it was febulous view to look down.. In fact, I am scared of height, but it seems fear is getting reduced since I have started going for treks very frequently, All treks involve climb high to reach at peak point.
By the time we came down, it was 4:30 pm. So total trek was from 10 am - 4:30 pm...
On the way back, we played one game called "Chinese Whisper". One of my friend Chirag initiated that. He was main enthu person in our group. Always thinking of new things, implementating those, making all other people to join in that… He is great.
Initially only 8-9 of us were playing that game, but looking at our fun, 2-3 more people willingly joined our team.. :) During our game, there was punishment for the looser. As a punishment, we made one girl to wake up someone who is sleeping and ask that person "Were you sleeping?"…. The girl who was waken up, we asked her to join us in our game, and she also instead of getting irritated, joined us in our game :))) For some other looser, we punished him to act as a begger in whole bus, and collect exactly Re. 1… and he did that :)))
Over all, it was fun with good deed.. There are lot more things we can do to save the nature. We just did our small amount of share..
Happy World Tourism day !

Grid Computing
A form of networking . Unlike conventional networks that focus on communication among devices, grid computing harnesses unused processing cycles of all computers in a network for solving problems too intensive for any stand-alone machine.
A well-known grid computing project is the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) @Home project, in which PC users worldwide donate unused processor cycles to help the search for signs of extraterrestrial life by analyzing signals coming from outer space. The project relies on individual users to volunteer to allow the project to harness the unused processing power of the user's computer. This method saves the project both money and resources.
Grid computing does require special software that is unique to the computing project for which the grid is being used.
